Well… this is awkward.
This year marks 15 years since we released our very first gay game for PC.
Back in September 2011, we were OONYX Games, and PocketDate Boy: Personal Trainer Ethan was our first step into game development. Eight more PocketDateBoy games followed over the years.
A lot has happened since then. Teams changed. Technology changed. OONYX eventually became part of our history, and in 2023 a new chapter began with ONX Media, today home to FullFrontal Beef and Studio FullFrontal.
But apparently nobody warned us that surviving this long means eventually having to call things “the archives.”
So here we are.
WE DON’T LIKE DEAD GAMES.
There’s been a lot of discussion lately about what it actually means to own a game in an increasingly digital industry.
And yes, technically, when you buy one of our games, you’re buying a license to play it. We know what the legal language says.
But we also know what we think.
You paid for the game. We don’t think we should get to take it away from you.
Servers shut down. Stores disappear. Operating systems change. Companies move on. And no developer can realistically promise to support every game on every piece of hardware forever.
But there’s a pretty big difference between “we can no longer support this” and “you can no longer have this.”
Wherever reasonably possible, we believe games people paid for should remain playable.
Which got us thinking… Wait. Don’t we have dead games too?
…shit.
TIME TO RAID THE ARCHIVES.
The nine PocketDateBoy games haven’t been sold in years.
Their original website is gone. Some of the original assets are missing. We’ve changed enormously since they were made, and the people working on our games today aren’t necessarily the people who worked on them back then.
They are, by every reasonable definition, dead games. So we’re bringing them back.
And because 2026 happens to mark 15 years since the first PocketDateBoy was released, we can’t think of a better excuse to start digging.
Beginning this September, we’ll be releasing one classic PocketDateBoy game every month, starting with the game that started everything: PocketDate Boy: Personal Trainer Ethan.
All nine games will be available free to our Silver members and above as part of our 15th anniversary celebration.
OLD. JANKY. PRESERVED.
We’re not remaking these games. We’re not going to pretend they’re shiny new releases either.
These are the original PocketDateBoy games from another era of our studio, preserved as closely as reasonably possible while making sure they can still run on modern systems.
And believe us… They’ve aged. 😂
The graphics are old. Some design decisions are questionable. Apparently we thought dating a hot personal trainer should have roughly the same difficulty curve as defeating a final boss.
We’ve been replaying them ourselves and occasionally wondering what the hell our younger selves were thinking. But that’s precisely why we want to preserve them. They’re part of our history.
Before FullFrontal Beef. Before Studio FullFrontal. Before ONX Media…
There was OONYX Games and a ridiculously difficult little dating game series called PocketDateBoy.
Fifteen years later, we’re still here.
Still independent.
Still making games.
Still filling them with far too many attractive men.
And now, apparently, old enough to have an archive.
Thank you for helping us get here. ❤️
The OONYX archives reopen this September 24th.
